It was half day tour to Agra from morning and then travel to Delhi in Evening. And then take overnight bus from Delhi to Manali in night.

As we had only time till 3 pm, we had planned to cover 3 main points namely The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh and Itmad ud Daula followed by lunch. Then we had train to board at 3:35 PM to Delhi.

Brief Introduction

Agra fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. It has massive red sandstone exterior structures and main fortress is built using red sandstone. It served as the main royal residence and seat of the Mughal empire until the capital moved to Delhi in 1638.
It was at this Fort where Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was imprisoned in 1666 by Emperor Aurangzeb before he executed a legendary escape.

The Entry fee to Agra Fort is INR 50 for Indian Citizens and timings are 7 AM- 7 PM. Only 1/3 fort is curently open to public, rest is occupied by Indian Army.

The fort is surrounded by trenches wherein water from Yamuna river was let in. The waters had crocodiles to prevent an possible intrusion attempt.

One could enter fort through Iron drawbridge over a moat full of crocodiles led to another smaller gate called the Hathi Pol (Elephant gate) where the guards were on elephants.

As we entered the Lahore gate, we could see how majestic it was. The big iron doors opened.
